Masterclasses
Masterclass Programme
The Masterclass programme is made up of a number of linked technology and process training sessions - both classroom based and interactive factory/site vists.
The focus for the series of Masterclasses is construction innovation and in particular the use of modern methods and offsite construction techniques.
The combination of classroom based and factory/site visit activity will provide the delegate with a balance of theoretical and practical knowledge.
The Masterclass programme is designed to be flexible, with only the Modern Methods &; Offsite Construction Overview Masterclass being compulsory, as this is the scene setter for all other optional activity. A minimum combination of 4 Masterclasses and factory/site visits will be required to complete the course designed for the Skills Advantage programme and for trainees to gain a competent understanding of the subject matter.
Delegates will be signposted to the relevant Masterclass subject matter on offer or a range of factory/site visits to suit their business needs as identified by the Organisational and Individual Needs Analysis activity completed as part of their engagement with the Skills Advantage programme.
Knowledge gained from the Masterclass programme will highlight trends and developments within new construction technology and will ensure that Leaders and Managers attending will be fully briefed on the future direction of the construction industry.
Masterclass Format & Guest Speakers
Each Masterclass will be a full day of classroom-based presentation activity. Each session will contain a presentation from a Guest Speaker relating directly to the subject matter being covered. The Guest Speakers will be selected from leading manufacturers of the systems being addressed and this will provide an 'insiders' perspective of the technology development, and manufacturing environment in which they operate. Masterclasses will have a number of structured interactive discussions to permit delegates the opportunity to explore issues that are important to their business or them as individuals.
Attendance Records & Feedback Forms
Attendance Records will be maintained for each Masterclass and Factory Visit, along with delegate Feedback Forms to monitor the quality of training delivery and the relevancy of the information presented to each individual.
Masterclass Content
MC1 Modern Methods & Offsite Construction Overview
The Modern Methods & Offsite Construction Overview will address the main benefits of using MMC/OSC techniques and best practice construction process by looking at the available technologies and the importance of developing and implementing an MMC/OSC strategy to address supply-chain development, design issues, procurement and logistics planning etc. This Masterclass will provide a comprehensive and contemporary understanding of the latest and newest construction solutions across a wide range of construction sectors, including Residential applications, Healthcare facilities, Education buildings plus Leisure, Retail and Commercial sectors.
MC2 Technology Talk - Frame Solutions
The Frame Solutions Masterclass addresses the characteristics and supply-chain issues to be addressed in the design and application of a differing array of frame technologies. The Frame Solutions Masterclass will address Timber Frame, Steel Frame and Concrete Frame technologies and addresses the different technical capabilities of each, along with supply capacity, application limitations, certification requirements etc. Timber Frame construction is well established in the UK and has maintained a dominant share of the housing sector for a number of years. The speed of development of LSF technology has resulted in a rapid growth in uptake across all sectors of the construction industry - indeed, it looks set to become the fastest growing offsite construction technology, whilst concrete technology is making a significant resurgence.
MC3 Technology Talk - Volumetric & Hybrid Pod Solutions
Volumetric Modular construction and Pods maximises the opportunity to bring site-based construction activity into a controlled factory environment, giving the potential to provide a complete, factory finished construction solution. This Masterclass focuses on the best solutions and how to get the most from this advanced build technology. By combining Volumetric and Pod solutions with Frame solutions a Hybrid construction solution can be achieved, providing economies in terms of structural efficiency and a more integrated construction solution. This Masterclass will address the various technologies and highlight the different technical capabilities of each, along with supply capacity, limitations, certification requirements etc.
MC4 Supply Chain Development & System Selection
A new approach to supply chain integration is vital to exploit the full benefits of modern methods & offsite construction techniques. This Masterclass looks at the best procurement routes, including techniques for product and system selection, supplier assessment/audit, procurement planning and supply logistics. This Masterclass is supported by a number of optional supplier visits to manufacturing facilities in order to practically demonstrate the theory and ensure that the total procurement activity is demonstrated in a fully integrated manner.
MC5 Environmental Impact & Performance Measurement
This Masterclass looks at key topics in the industry and the importance of modern methods and offsite construction techniques in building a sustainable construction environment for the future. The subjects covered are wide ranging and are driven by the latest legislation and Building Regulation requirements. A number of environmental and sustainability software packages, including SBEM, EcoHomes, BREAM, SAP etc. will be demonstrated as part of this Masterclass. Methods of technology selection and substitution to achieve enhanced environmental performance will be explored.
